Interview

1) What are some of your main musical influences (music, albums,artists..) ?

My principal influences are early chicago and new york house then Detroit..
And also Artists like chez damier, ron trent, the early derrick carter’s sound patrol album for example

2) Can you tell us a little bit about your music – how would you describe it? When you’re composing and recording what feelings are you trying to invoke in listeners?
My music is a concentrate of my musical influences and daily life. It’s house and it’s like made like done in the back in the days
I am not trying to invoke specific feelings to listeners,  I do my thing and I think nothing over meanwile i compose and record….

3)How long does it take for you to finish a track?

I haven’t a precise way or timing to finishing a track. Somedays I am able to produce two or three tracks, others I can work for nothing

4) In most cases digital sales have overtaken vinyl sales these days. Do you think vinyl will keep going or disappear eventually? are you still a crate digger?
What you said unfortunately is true but the vinyl will not die, there are still so much dj and artist who support this format. Personally I’ll always use the vinyls and my work will always be released on vinyl.

5) Recent tracks or artists that you enjoyed the most ?
I buy so little new works…..mmm…..I enjoyed the last Kindasoul ep and the works of « Nicholas » a guy from Perugia

6) What can we expect from you in 2011 ?
music music music

7) Each radioshow we make has a proverbe, is there a proverbe you actually like and want to share with us ?
he he he ….sooo….Help yourself and God will help you

Interview

1) What are some of your main musical influences (music, albums, artists..) ?
So many artists to name, some obvious & some through osmosis. But I think one of my main influences is definitely Larry Heard aka Mr Fingers. He strikes the perfect balance between dance floor jack, soulfulness and deepness. But I do listen to a wide range of music outside of house or techno, and in one way or another its all an influence.

2) Can you tell us a little bit about your music – how would you describe it? When you’re composing and recording what feelings are you trying to invoke in listeners
I would say that my music is for the most part a reflection of my experiences on the dance floor. Also when I make music, it is geared towards the dance floor. However, I do try to keep it deep and add a touch of soul & funk to it.

3)How long does it take for you to finish a track?
Each track differs in time. Some are done in a day on a whim, others drag on for months. The creative process is never a predictable one for me.

4) In most cases digital sales have overtaken vinyl sales these days.Do you think vinyl will keep going or disappear eventually? are you still a crate digger?
It is already quite a niche market and the number of vinyl pressed per release keeps shrinking. It think it will hang around for a bit still but only for the collectors. For myself I have been buying more vinyl again. It’s still the most comfortable medium for me to play in (although I do travel with a combination of Serato & Vinyl)

5) Recent tracks or artists that you enjoyed the most ?
DJ Qu, Aybee, Oni Ayhun, Vakula, Nebraska, Adam Marshall, Hakim Murphy, Chicago Skyway, Steven Tang, Disco Nihilist, Juju & Jordache, James Duncan, Deetron, Keith Worthy, Reggie Dokes, the list goes on and on. Quite a lot of good stuff out there at the moment.

6) What’s next for Basic Soul unit? we heard about an incoming lp on Still Music.. Are there any surprises on there (it ?) we should know about?
I’ve got remixes for Franco Cangelli on Self Defence, Sian on Octopus & Kai on Ojo de Apolo. I’m working on new original material but trying not to rush things and making sure I have quality over quantity. As for the album, its on hold at the moment as Still had some distribution issues, so things may still change by the time it comes out. Stay tuned…

7) Each radioshow we make has a proverbe, is there a proverbe you actually like and want to share with us ?
A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.

8) If you have any additional info you would like to share with our followers, we would be really glad to hear about it !
Just a thank you for hosting my mix and hope you enjoy!
